I recently attended a talk where the speaker asked everyone in the audience to bring forth any memories from the past that we still have shame and guilt for. Once we had these memories in the forefront of our minds the speaker lead us through a visualization to burn these memories and imagine they were gone forever…. It was at this point my inner voice was screaming ‘how dare you tell me to burn and throw away these parts of myself!’
EVERY SINGLE ACTION OR INACTION I HAVE EVER DONE HAS LED ME TO WHERE I AM TODAY.
The person I am today was built and created from growing to love the parts of myself this speaker was telling me to burn!
WE ARE MAGNIFICENT BEINGS, MADE UP OF ALL OUR ‘WRONGS’ AND ‘RIGHTS’.
In that moment with the speaker I stood up for my past self, I understood what self-love really meant. There is nothing from my past that I would not do again… and if I spoke to my younger self right now I would have nothing but love for her as a young woman growing into the person she will one day become.
What shames and guilts are you still carrying? Did learning from these shames and guilts help form the person you are today?
If so, it’s time to love yourself no matter what.
Stand up for the person you once were.
